The Steps
STORYTIME
My pistachio’s inspired this craft. I thought we’d cleverly make mustaches out of pistachios and call them, “mustachios”: mustache + pistachios.
What I didn’t know was that mustachio is a real word(they’re fancy mustaches) and there are many kinds/styles of mustaches & proper names for them. WHAT? Who would have known my crazy plan to make and call these mustaches, “mustachios”, would ACTUALLY be the correct term for them?!
Separate from all this fun, I read the origin’s of the mustache & word, the different styles & names, and of some of the famous people who had/have signature ‘staches’. Really! For no apparent reason, I just couldn’t stop. Don’t get me talking about beards because that’ll be a whole other post = ) We ultimately chose the Fu Manchu and Handlebar styles in our search, and had so much fun creating them. Which style would you choose?!
PREP
Crack your pistachios and lay the shells faced down onto a paper plate or newspaper.
Paint the shells brown, tan, black, ginger, etc.
Set aside to dry 5min
EYES
1. Use your craft paint bottle as the guide for the eyes and trace onto the colored paper.
2. Cut out the eyes and glue them to the upper part of the paper with stick glue or liquid glue.
MUSTACHE
1. Choose your ‘stach’ style and position your shells about 3 inches below the eyes.
2. Once you’re happy with the look, carefully apply plenty of hot glue or liquid glue(we opted for liquid glue).
Let dry for about 10-15 minutes.
EYEBROWS & MOUTH
1. Use a crayon that matches the beard color for the eyebrows.
2. Then draw a mouth with the pencil and then color it with a tan/flesh or pink crayon.
That’s it!
Naomi dediced on the Fu Manchu mustache in tan, blond eyebrows (barely visible), blue eyes, and sparkling teeth : ].]
I chose the Handebar mustache in black, black eyebrowns, brown eyes, and an open smile
: ))
What do you think?! Aren’t they dashing fellows?
Happy crafting!
